Haverhill Town Council has again organised a number of free events for Haverhill this summer. The highlights include the Haverhill Historic Vehicle Rally and Road Run (Sunday 14 July 10.00am to 5.00pm) Armed Forces Day (Saturday 29 June from 11:00am) The Big Day Out Wednesday 31 July and two tribute music nights on Market Square on Saturday 3 and 17 August. More information is available on these and other Town Council events in the Outdoor and Other events section of www.haverhillartscentre.co.uk . You can also call 01440 714140 and ask for a Summer in Haverhill brochure.

The Haverhill Historic Vehicle Rally and Road Run (Sunday 14 July 10.00am to 5.00pm) is a chance for those who appreciate the motors of yesteryear to get up close to classic cars, vans, buses, lorries and other unusual commercial vehicles. Between 1.00pm and 4.00pm visitors to the rally can be transported back to the past and travel on free vintage bus and coach trips around town. During the day a fantastic convoy of some of the vehicles will make their way through the surrounding villages  As this event takes place in the Arts Centre car-park please park elsewhere in town and walk to the rally.

Every year Haverhill Town Council organises a series of community fun days at various locations. The first is The Big Day Out on the Recreation Ground on Wednesday 31 July between 11.00am and 3.00pm. The Big Day Out features some great attractions such as climbing walls and bungee trampolines as well as stalls and information stands from local groups. Also not to be missed is Picnic in Park on Wednesday 7 August 11.00am to 3.00pm. There’s always a friendly atmosphere as hundreds of people get together to enjoy a communal picnic in the lovely grounds of East Town Park.  When all the sandwiches have been eaten then move onto exploring the park’s great play area or have a go at the workshops, inflatables and other fun things on offer. Two more fun days take place in the Chalkstone and the Clements’ estates community centres. The Chalkstone day is to be held in the field behind the Chalkstone Community Centre on Wednesday 14 August between 11.00am and 3.00pm. The Clements Fun Day, which celebrates 55 years of the Clements Estate, will be at the Leiston Community Centre.   At both there will be games and activities for all the family to enjoy together. Please note that parking on all sites is very limited.

Two longstanding events in Haverhill’s diary are the free music nights on Market Square. These events attract crowds of all ages who come to meet up with friends and family and listen (and dance) to great music. The first opportunity to soak up the summer vibes is on Saturday 3 August when the music will be provided by the brilliant sixties band, The Zoots and Take That Live. If that whets your whistle then make sure to come to the second night on Saturday 17 August. This time you will be entertained by Wannabe, A Spice Girls tribute act plus The Trembling Wilburys,  a homage to The Travelling Wilburys, (Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, George Harrison and Jeff Lynn.  Both concerts start at 8.00pm.

On Saturday 29 June the Town Council has organised its third Armed Forces Day. This nationally recognised day provides a chance for residents to show support to past and present military personnel. There will be a parade down the High Street and stalls and displays on Market Square and in and around St Mary’s Church.
