Suffolk Libraries Easter holiday activities for all the family
There are plenty of fun activities for families to enjoy at the county’s libraries this Easter. Children can hunt for Easter eggs, make Easter-themed crafts, Lego structures and kites, have beach-themed fun, learn how to code at our first ‘CoderDojo’, watch films, enjoy interactive story sessions and much more. Suffolk Libraries is also reminding customers that all libraries will be closed on Friday 30 March, Sunday 1 April and Monday 2 April. As well as all the usual regular activities and events, the following are taking place over the next two weeks. Saturday 31 March:
Bury St Edmunds library are holding an animal themed Lego Club from 10am to 12noon.
Chantry Library are holding an Easter egg hunt from 10am to 1pm and a Magical Mischief event from 2pm where children and their parents/carers are invited to enjoy magical stories, crafts and games.
Great Cornard Library are holding an Easter crafts session from 11am to 2pm and there is also a special Easter treasure hunt in the library from 31 March until 13 April.
Leiston Library and Wickham Market are both holding a special Easter holidays reading challenge from 31 March until 14 April to encourage children to keep on reading during the holidays.
Woodbridge Library are holding a special Lego session group for children and adults on the autistic spectrum from 1pm to 3pm.
Monday 2 April:
Gainsborough Library are encouraging local families to join in with some Easter fun from 11am to 1pm including making an Easter basket, a special Easter egg hunt and quiz starting from the library. There will also be a chance to find out more about the Gainsborough Community People’s Forum. (The library will still be closed on Monday).
Tuesday 3 April:
From Tuesday 3 April to 15 There will be an Easter Egg Hunt activity in Halesworth Library
Newmarket Library are holding a special owl storytime at 11am.
Wednesday 4 April:
Brandon Library are holding a spring crafts session at 2pm.
Gainsborough Library are holding a free art session for families to join in with together from 2pm to 4pm.
Hadleigh Library are holding a story time, crafts and Easter egg hunt for 4-8 year-olds
Halesworth Library are inviting children to make some ‘bunny bunting’ throughout the day.
Needham Market Library is holding a springtime crafts session for children aged 5+ at 2.30pm
Southwold Library are holding a special Kidz Film Fun activity with a screening of the Easter themed film ‘Hop’ at Southwold Arts Centre. Children can also take part in various activities including making their own bunny ears and Easter basket, decorating Easter eggs and creating pompom bunnies.
Stowmarket Library is holding a Seaside crafts session at 10am which will also be repeated on Wednesday 11 April.
Thursday 5 April:
Broomhill Library is hosting a special Captain Flinn storytime session at 10.30 with a chance to win free tickets to see the wonderful production of Captain Flinn at the Wolsey Theatre.
Chantry Library are holding two ‘Beach Bonkers’ sessions at 11am and 2pm where children can look for hidden treasure on the Beach Bonkers mini beach and enjoy seaside-themed stories and crafts.
Lavenham Library are holding a special Easter Lego fun session at 2.15pm
Woodbridge Library are holding an Easter storytime and crafts session for children aged 3-7 at 10.30am.
Friday 6 April:
Great Cornard are inviting everyone to celebrate Maths Awareness Month by taking on some maths challenges in the library from 2pm to 4pm. This activity will also run on Friday 13 April.
Monday 9 April:
It’s the first birthday of the Suffolk Libraries Local session at Shotley Village Hall. Come and celebrate with us with free homemade cream tea and other fun and games from 3pm to 4.30pm.
Tuesday 10 April:
Long Melford Library are holding a children's spring crafts sessions with Suffolk Wildlife Trust at 2.30pm
Wednesday 11 April:
Gainsborough Library are running an interactive story time session for 2-5 year-olds with the book ‘Never Tickle a Tiger’ at 2pm
Halesworth Library are inviting children to make their own dragons’ eggs.
Needham Market Library are running a special craft session for children to make special Iris folded cards from 2.30 to 4.30pm
Thursday 12 April:
Ipswich County Library are holding a CoderDojo session for ages 7-17 from 2pm to 4pm.
The library’s first CoderDojo will provide an informal, creative and social environment where children and young people can learn to code, build a website, create an app or a game, and explore new technology. The library will have a limited number of laptops available to use on the day but it would be helpful if you can bring your own. Under 12s must be accompanied by an adult.
Southwold Library will be running another Kidz Film Fun screening and activity session from 10.30am to 1pm at the Southwold Arts Centre. Children can enjoy the animated movie ‘The Secret Life of Pets’ and also make Twix sausage dogs, create cardboard guinea pigs, doorhanger cats and dog ears. Tickets only £3. This activity will be followed by a special kite-making and story session at 2pm with Reydon Community Gardeners at Jubilee Green.
Friday 13 April:
Stowmarket Library are hosting a Beach Bonkers session from 10am to 12noon where children can hunt for hidden treasures in the Beach Bonkers mini beach, play the giant Beach Bonkers board game and make some seaside-themed crafts.
