Following the resounding success of their previous productions, Made in Dagenham and Guys and Dolls, Suffolk Young People’s Theatre are returning to Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds with their fully staged version of the hit West End and Broadway Musical, Footloose: The Musical (Wed 25 – Sat 28 Jul).

Brooklyn born, city boy Ren thinks his life is over when he is forced to move to Bomont, an American rural backwater where Church is mandatory and rednecks are a dime a dozen. But things are far worse than he could have ever imagined. The small Midwestern town he now calls home has made dancing and rock music illegal. Struggling to fit in, Ren faces an uphill battle to shake things up in a town scarred by tragedy. With the help of his new friend, Willard, and rebellious teen Ariel, he might loosen up this conservative town. But Ariel's influential father, Reverend Shaw Moore stands in the way.

Based on the 1984 film of the same name and including some of the biggest hits of the day, Footloose bursts to life with a fierce portrayal of music, romance and dance. Delivered by the most talented young performers Suffolk has to offer and accompanied by a professional band, this powerful rock musical is ‘…the best kind of blast from the past!’

Suffolk Young People's Theatre, formed in 1979 by the late Ray Dyer MBE together with his wife Daphne Dyer who remains a driving force of the group, is a registered charity and not-for-profit amateur youth group that runs an annual three week summer school culminating in a run of performances in the theatre.

Tickets are on sale at the Box Office, call 01284 769505, book online at www.theatreroyal.org/shows/footloose-the-musical/ or visit the theatre in person.
